Gentle Smiles of Colorado aims to be your premier choice when you’re looking for a dentist in or around Denver, Golden, or Wheat Ridge, CO. Our mission is to give each and every one of our patients a healthy smile that will last a lifetime and we aim to achieve that through our numerous high-quality dental treatments. However, achieving a healthy smile also requires a constant personal commitment. Even though 2017 has already begun, it doesn’t mean that it’s too late to make a few more resolutions – especially if it’s in the name of great oral health! Here are some dental resolutions we recommend to make your smile even healthier.

Keep Up Your Daily Oral Hygiene Routine

The first thing you need to do in order to maintain a healthy smile is to make sure to keep up with your daily oral hygiene habits. We understand that sometimes you may be busy or you can feel tired, but that’s no excuse to skip out on brushing at least twice a day. Brushing only takes a few minutes and it’s easy to squeeze into your schedule. In addition, it’s important to floss daily as well; this will remove any food particles that are trapped inside your mouth that may cause tooth decay or gum disease.

Lower Your Sugar Intake

One of the most harmful things you can do to your teeth is to eat plenty of sugary foods. Sugar is harmful for teeth because it will eat away at your tooth enamel and cause tooth decay. While we understand that it’s a seemingly impossible task to completely cut out all sugary foods, we recommend limiting your sugar intake and opting for a healthier alternative, such as fruits or yogurts, instead.

Visit the Dentist Once Every Six Months

Just because you’re keeping up with your daily brushing and flossing habits doesn’t mean that there’s no need to see the dentist. Seeing a dentist isn’t just vital because of the deep cleaning that your dentist will perform on your teeth, but also because it’s a good chance to make sure that your daily hygiene is as effective as you believe it to be. Your dentist can review brushing and cleaning methods to make sure that you’re keeping your teeth as healthy as they can be.
