For those in the Greater Golden, Wheatridge, and Denver Areas!

At Gentle Smiles of Colorado, we help our patients with a wide range of dental problems, from minor to very serious. When it comes to Denver dentistry, we believe we should offer treatment options for problems that many of our patients face, as well as those that are less common. We have found that the majority of our patients enter our doors with six common dental concerns, making it our goal to provide fast and effective treatment to the best or our ability.

Tooth Decay

Tooth decay is one common problem that is completely preventable. More often known as cavities or caries, tooth decay is caused by the buildup of bacteria and plaque on the surface of the teeth. Acids form when the bacteria combines with the sugars left behind from sweet, carbohydrate-rich foods and can eat away at the enamel that protects the teeth. This problem can be reduced with good oral hygiene, including regular brushing and flossing.

Tooth Sensitivity

Like most other materials found on Earth, teeth also react to hot and cold. They tend to expand when exposed to hot temperatures and contract when exposed to cold temperatures. For some people, these reactions can cause severe pain and sensitivity when eating and drinking. This sensitivity may be caused by one of the following issues:

  • Worn-down tooth enamel
  • Receded gums
  • Microscopic cracks in the teeth

The exposure of nerve endings can even make breathing in cold air an uncomfortable experience.

Periodontal Disease

Also known as gum disease and gingivitis, periodontal disease is inflammation of the tissues surrounding the teeth. The gums can become swollen, red, bloody, and painful, and the condition can even lead to other health distress. Left untreated, gingivitis can progress to periodontitis, resulting in lost teeth or the need for removal or reconstruction.

Halitosis

When food particles are left in the mouth, they begin to break down and can cause bad breath, or halitosis. Most of the time brushing and flossing can solve this problem, but occasionally it can be a sign of another underlying complication.

Orthodontic Concerns

Malocclusions, or improperly aligned bites, can be a concern, due to the possibility of developmental issues. Patients may need additional treatment beyond Golden & Wheat Ridge dental care.

Canker Sores

The small, painful, recurring sores found inside the mouth are called canker sores or aphthous ulcers. They can be treated with topical agents or antimicrobial mouthwashes.
