We place such an emphasis on our comprehensive selection of dentistry procedures because we want to be able to help our patients in any circumstance, no matter if they’re afflicted with a common dental problem or a rarer one.  Having said that, over the years, we’ve found that there are six common dental concerns that appear much more frequently than others. It’s our aim to give our patients proven and efficient treatment when they find themselves suffering from any of these common problems.

Tooth Decay

One of the most common oral and dental problems is tooth decay. This is caused by the buildup of bacteria and plaque on the surfaces of the teeth. When bacteria combine with sugars that are left over from foods, they’ll begin to eat away at the tooth enamel and cause decay. Thankfully, this is entirely preventable and the chances of developing tooth decay can be reduced by practicing great oral hygiene.

Tooth Sensitivity

Teeth react to hot and cold by expanding when exposed to hot temperatures and contracting when exposed to cold temperatures. For patients with tooth sensitivity, these reactions can sometimes cause pain when eating or drinking. This sensitivity may be caused by worn-down tooth enamel, receded gums, or minor cracks in the teeth.

Periodontal Disease

Periodontal disease, also known as gum disease, is where the tissues surrounding the teeth are inflamed. These gums can become red, swollen, bloody, painful, and this condition can even lead to other health problems. When it’s left untreated, it can even result in lost teeth or the need for tooth removal or reconstruction.

When food particles are left inside your mouth, they’ll start to break down, causing halitosis, also known as bad breath. While brushing and flossing will often solve this problem, it can sometimes be a sign of another underlying complication.

Orthodontic Concerns

Misaligned bites can be a concern due to the possibility of developmental issues. If you have an orthodontic problem, you may need to visit an orthodontist in addition to your Denver family dentist.

Canker Sores

Also known as aphthous ulcers, these are small and recurring sores that are found inside the mouth. They can be treated with antimicrobial mouthwashes or topical agents.
