What Are Veneers?

Veneers are a thin, translucent, tooth-colored material that dentists place over the surface of your teeth to improve their appearance. Veneers can be made from different materials, such as porcelain resin or composite resin.

Who Needs Veneers?

If you're not happy with the shape or look of your teeth and you feel like it's affecting the quality of your life, getting veneers can be a great option to consider.

You can use them for a variety of issues.

  • Chipped teeth
  • Stains or discoloration
  • Gaps in your teeth
  • Broken teeth
  • Spacing issues
  • Misshapen teeth
  • Crooked teeth

If your teeth are too small, veneers can also be used to change their size to make them look larger and more natural. Finally, veneers can help strengthen weaker teeth by adding a layer of support.

Does It Hurt to Get Veneers?

Although the process of having veneers placed on your teeth may cause some discomfort, it's not a painful procedure.

Dentists typically have to remove some enamel from your teeth so the veneers can adhere to their surface. This may cause a bit of sensitivity, but you can opt for local anesthesia to minimize any pain.

Next, a mold is made of your teeth. This is sent to the lab so customized veneers can be made. When your veneers are ready, they will be cemented to your teeth using a special adhesive.

Once the permanent veneers are on your teeth, there may be some discomfort as your mouth adjusts to the veneers. You can take over-the-counter pain relievers if you feel mild pain during this adjustment period.

What Is the Process of Getting Veneers?

If you believe you need veneers, you can make an appointment with our Denver cosmetic dentist. Our dentist will examine your teeth and take X-rays. This is the stage that will determine if you're a good candidate for veneers.

Our dentist will also discuss what kind of outcome you are hoping for. You can choose the shape and color of the veneers you'd like to have as well.
