Here at Gentle Smiles of Colorado, Dr. Tim Wachuta and his staff pride themselves on providing their patients with the best periodontic and cosmetic procedures available.

At several of our locations, including ones in Denver, Golden, and Wheat Ridge, we encounter many people looking to restore or maintain the health and quality of their teeth. One of the most popular ways to accomplish this is something known as composite bonding.

If you need periodontics in Denver, then consider scheduling an appointment at Gentle Smiles of Colorado.

What Exactly Is Composite Bonding?

Composite bonding is a procedure in which a dental professional replaces a lost section of a patient’s tooth with a composite resin, to give the tooth its original appearance. The composite resin is specifically designed to match the color of the surrounding teeth, so nothing appears out of place.

Composite bonding is often considered to be a good alternative to veneers and is a less involved process overall. In short, the way it works is by roughening the area where the composite will be placed, applying a gel that creates a porous surface, adding an adhesive to the area, and then finally applying the resin.

What Are Some Advantages of Composite Bonding?

Some advantages to composite bonding over other tooth restoration methods include:

  • Comparatively inexpensive
  • Usually only requires a single office visit lasting a couple of hours
  • Minimally invasive
  • Natural-looking

What Are Some Downsides to Composite Bonding?

While composite bonding can be a very effective procedure, it does have some downsides, including:

  • Composites aren’t nearly as strong as other restoration methods, like veneers.
  • Composites tend to stain quite easily.
  • Composites wear down over time, requiring replacement every 10 years or so.
